SUMMARY:Old Electric Railway Discussion
DESCRIPTION:CONVOY — The history of a once-busy electric railway that connected communities across northwest Ohio and northeast Indiana will be the focus of a public program hosted by the Convoy Historical Society. \n\n\n\nThe presentation\, scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday\, October 4\, at the Convoy Opera House\, will feature Bill Van Doren of Miamisburg. He’ll speak about the Fort Wayne\, Van Wert and Lima Traction Company\, commonly known as the interurban rail line. \n\n\n\nBeginning in 1905\, the interurban offered area residents a clean\, comfortable and efficient way to travel at a time when transportation options were more limited. The electric cars could reach speeds of 60 miles per hour and served 71 marked stops between Lima and Fort Wayne. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn busy special-event days\, a single car could carry as many as 150 passengers. The program also will revisit a dramatic Easter Sunday accident in 1910\, when residents of Convoy heard the grinding crash of a rail accident followed by the ringing of the fire bell. \n\n\n\nAttendees will hear the rest of that story\, along with a broader look at the traction line’s history and its role in shaping regional travel before operations ended in 1933. \n\n\n\nThe public is invited to attend. The event is free\, and donations will be accepted. The Convoy Opera House is located at 111 S. Main St.

DESCRIPTION:Doors Open at 5 pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDuring the COVID-19 pandemic\, Daryl Wayne Dasher spent his time off the road writing and recording what he considers his best work to date.  Recorded at Wild Feather Recording in Hendersonville\, TN with Grammy award winning engineer and co-producer Zack Kasik\, “Honky Tonk Ways” brings a fresh new sound to the DWD catalog.  Most of the songs were co-written with Linda McRae during quarantine via Zoom or FaceTime. The title track was co-written with his long-time friend and collaborator Brigitte London.  The album also includes a classic Marty Robbins cover of “Tonight\, Carmen”.  With top notch musicians like Scotty Sanders (Pedal Steel)\, Jim VanCleve (Fiddle & Mandolin)\, and Lorenzo Molina Ruiz (Horns\, Backing Vocals) adding their touches to the rhythm section’s (Daniel Seymour on Bass and Justin Amaral on drums) live recordings\, on top of special guest appearences by Linda McRae (Bass and Backing Vocals) and Andrew Adkins (Mellotron and Electric Guitar)\, the outcome was undoubtedly on par with any main stream record on the market\, without the regulations and restrictions of major label affiliations.     \n\n\n\n\n\n“Honky Tonk Ways” marks a new era of genre-free writing and recording for Dasher\, and is sure to offer something special for almost anyone!  \n\n\n\nCall Dave for tickets- 419-749-1144 (leave message)
